Juice Conference 2009 Juice 2.0 “Building Maine’s Innovation Networks,” will be held November 13-14, 2009 in Camden, Maine. The Juice Conference connects leaders of the creative economy to foster growth and prosperity. Weaving together the arts, technology, and entrepreneurship, Juice inspires innovation by bringing talented people together from widely different backgrounds to build on Maine’s traditions.  Juice is a forum for the exchange of ideas, the sharing of success stories, and the development of strategies for Maine’s future. How do artists transform our built environment and how are they inspired? What is the role of engineering and material science in the repurposing of traditional buildings? Why are creativity and innovation essential ingredients for Maine's economy? How can arts organizations evolve in an age of technology and social media? What are Maine's leading networking organizations and companies doing to foster workforce and develop career opportunities? What are the challenges and advantages of contributing to or raising venture capital in Maine? What are Maine's greatest innovation success stories and how can we learn from them? The conference will tackle these and many more questions. www.juiceconference.org

Build Green Maine was originated by Midcoast Magnet, and is now a partnership between Midcoast Magnet and the Newforest Institute. It was launched with the intention of connecting practitioners in the fields of green building and renewable energy with each other and with homeowners and other stakeholders in Maine’s communities: government, non-profit, financial and educational institutions.  We seek to coordinate with and support those organizations who work toward the common goal of a sustainable and healthy built environment. Stay tuned for the Guild coming soon. www.buildgreenmaine.com

Pecha Kucha: Pecha Kucha is an invigorating way to present and share work.  Short for “chit chat” Pecha Kucha allows 8 presenters to show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter. This keeps presentations concise and dynamic and riveting, while creating great exposure to large audiences.  A world wide program, Pecha Kucha was brought to the midcoast by Midcoast Magnet, kicking off with a 200 plus audience at Eric Hopkins Gallery in January 2009.  Our next Pecha Kucha will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Camden Opera House as a part of the Juice 2.0 conference.

Mentoring Program In the summer of 2008 we kicked off a Summer Internship Program.  It was created to enhance the experiences of summer interns through mentorships and a series of networking, skill-building and social events that ensured 18-23 year olds working in the Midcoast realize the quality of life and career growth available to them. There were many successes with the program and much appreciated feedback as to how to improve it.  We are currently working to evolve the “internship” program into a mentoring program that will continue to include summer internships, mentoring, and skill building workshops.  Overall, the program will target college students and young professionals. Let us know if you’d like to get involved!
