"Connecting all Interns" MidMag Summer Internship Program

Is your business planning to hire a college intern this summer? Perhaps you have already been hired as an intern yourself? Either way, Midcoast Magnet wants you! We are reaching out to businesses and students in Knox and Waldo counties who already have plans for summer internships.
We have designed an internship program focused on attracting and retaining college interns. The tactic is to connect interns with each other and to the wider business community through planned events, networking opportunities and educational workshops.

Juice Conference - A Great Success!

On November 16 and 17th 2007 over 400 people gathered in and Camden to attend the first Juice Conference.

Participants came from 87 communities across Maine and beyond, as distant as Biddeford and Eastport, Belfast and Fort Kent, representing over 290 businesses and organizations. This wide cross-section of motivated people got connected, got inspired, and got to work setting goals and next steps to make sure creativity and innovation are at the forefront of Maine's economic future.

All of the 36 different 90-minute workshop sessions helped connect people with shared interests, and most also aimed at coalescing those people around priority goals and actions. Contact people for each topic identified themselves, and the Juice conference organizers will follow up with them to encourage them to follow through and to report on their results.

Midcoast Magnet presents: Build Green Maine

Over 100 people showed up for the first meeting of Build Green Maine on a Wednesday night in Rockland. Builders, developers, energy providers, designers and regular interested people packed the Farnsworth on Main Street to talk about the innovations happening in this exciting field, to make connections, and to eat and drink things.

A panel led a lively discussion that touched on the strong community and tradition of sustainable building in Maine; the importance of local sourcing; the difficulty for consumers sorting through the flood of green-marketed products now available; and the potential for practitioners to work together as an industry cluster. Panelists included:

  • Jan Wirth – Old Woods Farm – sustainable housing developer
  • George Haselton – Harvest Fuels / Rockport Mechanical – biodiesel
  • Peter Taggart – LEED home builder
  • Steve Konstantino – Maine Green Buildling Supply / Energy Innovations
  • Sarah Holland – Holland and Foley Architects
  • Mike Roberts – Ascendant Energy – solar systems

Build Green Maine is a new venture that provides resources through our website and community events. The Green Builders’ Guild will be a one-stop-shop for businesses to find partners and consumers to find everything from the best insulating products to the greenest places to live.

"Creativity is key to our economy. Creativity on all fronts is our economic engine. Now human creativity is the source of wealth and value. Our human energy has replaced raw materials as the critical factor in economic development. People are the resource."
